General Description:  Come help us celebrate the 23rd year of SERVE at LaGrave Christian Reformed Church. Grand Rapids has been called, “a cool city with warm hospitality”. Here in West Michigan we’re on the on the leading edge of art, cuisine and culture, but we have a distinctive small town feel as people are friendly and the streets are generally safe and clean.

Capacity: 110 (Including leaders)

Facilities:  LaGrave Christian Reformed Church will be the host. The church is air-conditioned and we have a great youth building for our evening sessions and plenty of room to hang out after the sessions.

Work Sites:  You will be working at a wide variety of sites. You will be at a different site each day giving you a great experience. Working with homeless, building houses, sorting food at a distribution center, helping at day care centers, painting and doing community car washes will all be part of your experience.

Day Away:  Beach at Grand Haven. The Grand Haven Convention and Visitors Bureau websites states, “The beaches located in the Grand Haven Area are considered to be some of the best vacation spots during the summer months. With the hot sun glimmering off of beautiful Lake Michigan, the sandy shores are absolutely irresistible.  There is an incredible amount of fun activities to participate in that will perfect a day spent on the beach…Grand Haven will leave you anything but disappointed.”

Transportation:  Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group of five or more must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

What are people saying about this site?

“It was a week that I will never forget. The week went very well… LaGrave was a great place to go and if given the chance, I would go back there again. Jolene was the most awesome speaker. She connected with the kids so well. So, overall, it was a great experience. It was so great to see God at work!” – Vickie

“The SERVE experience this past year was wonderful…  I feel that it was as enriching to my students as it was to me.  I felt pretty prepared for this experience.  There was a good sense of communication between the host team and myself, and I feel that the material provided gave a good idea for the direction that the week would take.  I look forward to participating in the SERVE experience with my students again in the future.” – Katherine
