General Description: Welcome to Grand Rapids! The Brookside SERVE will provide you with the opportunity to grow your faith while you serve the community and hang out with your friends, both new and old. Our host team is made up of SERVE veterans and we love SERVE! We’ve coordinated meaningful work with a number of organizations in town as well as through our own deacons. We will also be hosting a mobile food pantry at Brookside one evening – we’ll hand out 10,000 pounds of food in 1 hour! You’ll also have tons of fun with games, activities, and a few surprises throughout the week. Oh yeah, the food is amazing too.
Facilities: You will be staying at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, which is air-conditioned and has plenty of space
Work Sites: Teams will enjoy a variety of work throughout the week. Tasks typically include painting, cleanup, light construction and repair, distributing food, landscaping, working with students at a youth home, and more.
Day Away: Trip to the beach at Lake Michigan and Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park www.miadventure.com
Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group of five or more must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Grand Rapids, MI (GRR).
Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
