| THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO SERVE Dates: July 3 - 10, 2010 (Saturday - Saturday) General Description: We are located on the north shore of beautiful Lake Superior in the heart of the rugged Canadian Boreal forest. Three Christian Reformed Churches and the Christian Community Center all provide volunteers and support for this SERVE experience. People living in the city, who are less fortunate than most, will benefit from your efforts. You will show the love of God through the work of your hands. Facilities: You will be accommodated at the Thunder Bay Christian School with on-site showers, sports, and kitchen facilities. Evening sessions will take place at the neighboring First Christian Reformed Church Fellowship Hall. Work Sites: Some of the names include Thunder Bay Shelter House, Thunder Bay Christian Community Centre, Dew Drop Inn, Twice as Nice, Haven House, Habitat for Humanity, Restore, and Pop-cans for Charity. See Thunder Bay SERVE website for more detailed information. Participants are asked to bring work boots and gloves for work sites. Day Away: We will be going to the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park where you will have a choice between going to an in-land lake beach for sunbathing, swimming, and various beach sports or, for the more energetic Servants, a challenging bike-and-hike has been arranged to take in a "Superior" view of nature the way God created it from the highest cliffs in Ontario. Please bring a bicycle helmet if you're interested in participating in the bike and hike. Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group of five or more must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s), typically small group leader(s), to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day so 12-passenger vans, 7 passenger SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call YU to discuss options and additional charges. For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Thunder Bay, ON. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site. What are people saying about this site?
