| CALVIN SEMINARY – FACING YOUR FUTURE ENCOUNTER Dates: June 30 – July 21, 2010 General Description: Facing Your Future is a program that runs from June 30 through July 21, 2010. It consists of 10 days on the beautiful campus of Calvin College and Calvin Seminary, a 10 day ministry excursion and 1 day back in Grand Rapids for closure and wrap up. With the faculty of Calvin Seminary you will be stretched and challenged to reflect theologically on many different modern issues concerning world affairs, the church and the individual Christian. You will engage in group discussions concerning various readings from C.S. Lewis, Shane Claiborne, and Neal Plantinga, films, excursion experiences and worship. You will experience what it means to be part of a community that seeks to know God more and follow his will. You will be challenged to think about how God is calling you to serve him as you transition into the next phase of your life and into the future. There will be time for recreation and service, small groups, individual reflection and you will travel to one of three excursion sites and participate in ministry there. The excursion reinforces the correlation between theological reflection and ministry. These sites have been uniquely developed for FYF in partnership with Youth Unlimited. Facilities: You will be staying on the campus of Calvin College for the Grand Rapids segment. Work Sites: You will be serving at a wide variety of sites while on the excursion segment. Working with the homeless, working with children in summer day camps, serving in food pantries, door to door canvassing, cleaning and painting Ministry Centers, serving in soup kitchens and much more will all be part of your experience. Transportation: Students are responsible for arranging travel to and from Grand Rapids, MI. All travel that occurs during FYF will be arranged and covered by FYF. For planning purposes, the closest airport is Grand Rapids, MI. How to register for this site: Designed for students who are presently high school students who are in grade 11 or 12, the program is open only to members of the CRC who are nominated by their pastor, youth pastor, or a Christian high school administrator or Bible teacher. Nominees should have a demonstrated involvement in the life and ministry of the church, possess the character and qualities for Christian leadership, and exhibit the ability to grapple thoughtfully with big ideas and important issues.
