General Description: Welcome to Alamosa, Colorado! “Land of Cool Sunshine!” Alamosa lies 7,600 feet above sea level in the San Luis Valley located in Southern Colorado, surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountains that contain peaks over 14,000 feet. The San
Luis Valley is the highest desert mountain valley in the world. The climate is dry and average temperature in the summer is around 75 degrees with cool evenings.

Facilities: You will be staying at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church and across the street at The Waverly Youth and Community Center.

Work Sites: Yard work for elderly, low-income people; small construction jobs; a variety of other possibilities.

Day Away: Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. The Sand Dunes are the tallest dunes in North America rising 750 feet from the valley floor and is 39 square miles. To read more and view pictures of the Great Sand Dunes you may go to www.nps.gov/grsa or www.wildernet.com.

Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group of five or more must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Colorado Springs/Alamosa Regional.
