General Description: Crosspoint Community Church strives to help individuals and families find and fully enjoy life in Jesus Christ. You will be working with the leadership of Crosspoint Community Church as together you serve the city of Anchorage by showing God’s love to the kids that participate in their Kids Camp ministry. Kids Camp can best be described as “vacation Bible school on steroids.” Kids Camp averages about 100 kids per week and requires 60-70 volunteers to run it.

Anchorage is a very unique place.  Located between the Cook Inlet and the Chugach mountains the bowl of Anchorage is home to more than half of the population in the state of Alaska, 250,000 people. This is an interesting statistic considering that Alaska is three times the size of Texas.  This makes Anchorage a city amongst a vast wilderness.  Anchorage offers everything a big city has shopping malls, museums, and movie theatres.  But just like every other city in the world, Anchorage also has poverty, homelessness and crime.  Alaska is a very hard place to live if you have nothing.  The Church of Anchorage (Big C), is coming together to bring hope to the hopeless, light to the darkness, and love to the unlovable.  One way that Crosspoint is a part of that is by inviting kids to spend some time at Kids Camp.  The kids that participate are from all kinds of backgrounds, ethnicities, and stages of faith. Some know the joy of our God and others have yet to know. 

If you decide to join in our ministry to the city of Anchorage, you will pushed to your limits, physically, mentally, and spiritually.  Kids Camp at Crosspoint consists of full days working closely with peers, volunteers, and of course 100 screaming kids.  We have our Boot Camp training, 3 days in the mountains at Victory Bible Camp which will include training and team building.  Following Boot Camp, we have two consecutive weeks of Kids Camp.  Kids Camp will fill the days with singing, playing, hiking, dancing, laughing, eating, and maybe some tears too. You never know what might happen. Though the days are full, there will be free time in the evenings. We will also have days away so we can get out and enjoy that vast Alaskan wilderness.   

Crosspoint Community Church’s desire is not only to show God’s love to the city of Anchorage, but to disciple those who are involved as leaders. As part of the Anchorage ENCOUNTER team, you will help Crosspoint Community Church to meet both of those goals.

Facilities: You will be staying with a host family.  

Worksites: As part of the Anchorage ENCOUNTER team, you will be helping to train and lead volunteers for the Kids Camp. This includes working together with your peers, attending the Boot Camp training, and partnering with Crosspoint leadership in facilitating the daily activities of Kids Camp.  Most importantly we will be showing the love of Christ to each kid that walks through the door.

Day Away: There are plenty of opportunities for the Day Away. This will be determined based on the sight-seeing interests of the ENCOUNTER team but could include hiking, fishing or visiting glaciers.

Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from this mission experience. As an all-inclusive site, transportation will be provided for you once you arrive at the site.

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Ted Stevens Anchorage International (ANC). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
