General Description: Rosewood Youth Ministries is hosting this SERVE site, right here at Rosewood CRC in Bellflower, CA, which is about 20 miles south of Los Angeles. Bellflower is a rapidly changing community -- once the home of many Dutch dairy farmers, and now a multi-ethnic community consisting of a 45 percent Hispanic population. As part of the SERVE week, students will experience the "Summer Family Nights" program at Rosewood and assist with the Food Pantry program here, in addition to their work-site assignments.

Facilities: We will sleep in air-conditioned classrooms on the Rosewood Church campus, and shower at nearby high-school locker rooms. Note: Adult chaperones will shower at church members' homes.

Work Sites: Light construction, painting, yard work, cleaning for elderly and less-advantaged families in the Bellflower community; remodeling of the church's food pantry; and service for some local non-profit organizations such as Artesia Christian Home and a domestic violence shelter.

Day Away: On Sunday afternoon we'll go to a popular Southern California beach. On Thursday afternoon we'll visit the famous Knott's Berry Farm theme park in nearby Anaheim.

Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from this mission experience. As an all-inclusive site, transportation will be provided for you once you arrive at the site.
Adult leaders will likely be asked to drive vehicles borrowed or rented by the Host Team during the mission experience. Please drive and treat these vehicles as if they were your own. Drivers will be held responsible for damage to borrowed or rented vehicles.

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Los Angeles, CA (LAX) or Long Beach, CA.
