| JUAREZ, MEXICO SERVE General Description: El Paso, TX and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico make up an area called the Borderplex. This SERVE site is offered in partnership with Life Challenge International, a ministry that focuses on community development in Juarez colonias, as well as short-term mission trips. You will have an opportunity to learn a little Spanish, interact with Mexican people and realize they are not very different from you, and discover the dynamics of two cities who make up the largest border complex between the US and Mexico, maybe even in the world! You will have instruction on how to best work in 10-20% humidity and at 3500+ feet above sea level. You will also be given plenty of time with the LORD in worship and on your own, with adults ready to help guide your discovery of His will for you. Basically, Juarez and El Paso are a “stone’s throw” from each other and share a lot of commonalities. There are many differences, too, but the experience will change your life forever. You’ll get to see how the LORD is at work in the ministries in the Borderplex and be a part of that work for a week. Every consideration has been given to the safety and health of all who participate in a Juarez SERVE, including medical insurance and all ground transportation. You will need to arrive into El Paso, Texas on Saturday afternoon for this SERVE trip. On Saturday and Sunday morning you will have the opportunity to stay at and worship with the Sunshine Community Church in El Paso, Texas. The rest of the week, beginning on Sunday afternoon, will be spent in Juarez, Mexico. Friday afternoon you will have an opportunity to shop at the Mexican markets and purchase some souvenirs for your friends and family. US dollars are the best currency to use, so no need to convert to pesos. Canadian groups will need to convert to US dollars, as Canadian dollars are not accepted there. Friday evening will be spent at Sunshine Community Church. Your experience will be finished on Saturday morning after breakfast. If you are flying, you will have transportation back to the airport for your flight home. Facilities: Comfortable, clean quarters, inside a securely gated facility with Life Challenge International. Hot showers as well as American and Mexican food are available. The water is purified at this facility. Work Sites: You will work in an impoverished nation, whose people appreciate Christians helping with their needs. You may also work with children in children’s homes and in neighborhoods. You will mainly be doing construction and renovation work projects as available as well. Day Away: Downtown Juarez tourist market (US dollars are accepted at the tourist market.) Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from this mission experience. As an all-inclusive site, transportation will be provided for you once you arrive at the site. Adult leaders will likely be asked to drive vehicles borrowed or rented by the Host Team during the mission experience. Please drive and treat these vehicles as if they were your own. Drivers will be held responsible for damage to borrowed or rented vehicles. Speaker: Ben Vincent What are people saying about this site?
