General Description: Come enjoy the beautiful San Bernardino mountains in Southern California while assisting mentally handicapped adults at Laurel Pines Campground. This is one camping trip you will always treasure.
Camp is the only vacation many of the residents at Salem Christian Homes get to experience. They look forward to it every year and start planning for camp 6 months in advance; who will be in their cabin, are they going canoeing, who will they push in the pool. All Salem residents are adults with developmental disabilities. Most residents who go to camp can care for their own personal needs but some will need help. The Salem staff will help them. The residents enjoy having the attention of the ENCOUNTER team. They enjoy telling others about their jobs and families. The main responsibility of the ENCOUNTER team is to assist in the supervision of the 60 residents who participate in camp. It is a fun job, but one that does not go away for 5 days. So come prepared to experience the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains and make many new friends.
Facilities: For the majority of the time, while we are in the mountains, you will stay in cabins at Laurel Pines Camp with Salem residents. For 3 nights during training and when we return to Salem, we stay on the floor.
