| VANASTRA, ONTARIO SERVE
Dates: July 4 - 11, 2009 (Saturday - Saturday)
Cost: $310 USD / $325 CAD
This is a RESTRICTED-SMOKING site.
This site is combined with an ENCOUNTER experience. Combined SERVE and ENCOUNTER sites allow you to bring your youth group on one mission experience at one location, but allows the teens and young adults to sign up for the type of experience that will best meet their individual spiritual needs. SERVE involves hands-on service designed for those who have a desire to help others and discover who God is. The concurrent ENCOUNTER experience involves people-oriented service, designed for those who want to experience further growth in faith, develop student leadership skills and learn how to share their God stories. At a combined site, all students and leaders are together for morning and evening meal-times and evening worship, but have separate work groups/projects and devotional material geared toward the type of experience they desire.
General Description: We will be working for the people in Huron County who need help. We try to find work sites through local churches, thrift stores and various agencies in the area. The Rack & Room, repairs to a deck, repairs and painting at a group home, clearing trails for the local conservation areas..these are all sites worked at before and more can be done at them.
Facilities: You will be hosted by churches in the Huron area. You’ll stay at Vanastra Christian Reformed Church with showers at the Rec Center.
Work Sites: Opportunities will involve a variety or works ties and may include cleaning up, painting, yard work, the local thrift stores and Habitat for Humanity among other projects.
Day Away: A local beach
Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group of five or more must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s), typically small group leader(s), to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call YU to discuss options and additional charges.
For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Toronto, Hamilton or London, Ontario. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
