General Description: Since 2004, God has worked through others just like you on the YU Missions experience in Zambia to change the lives of many orphans for eternity! The 2-month Zambia ENCOUNTER experience is for committed Christians who are over the age of 18 or attending college.
There are about 1 million orphans in Zambia from the AIDS pandemic and the Christian Church in Zambia does not have the resources to adequately care for and minister to the orphans. Youth Unlimited is partnered with Every Orphans’ Hope – a Christian ministry to the orphans of Africa (www.everyorphan.org) – and with local churches to conduct the Bible Camps and provide ongoing physical and spiritual care to orphans through a sponsorship program. The 2-month Zambia ENCOUNTER Team is also seeking an adult leader who is willing to spend the summer in Zambia as a mentor and disciple to the other team members.
Facilities: You will stay in a local school or guest house. Every Orphan’s Hope provides delicious food and bottled water for you. The weather will be dry with temperatures as low as 50 F at night and about 80 F during the day. June through August is winter/early spring in Zambia, which is south of the equator.
Work Sites: As a 2-month ENCOUNTER intern with Every Orphan’s Hope, you’ll be involved with nearly all aspects of their ministry in Zambia.
Transportation: Registration fees do NOT include airfare to and from Zambia. As an all-inclusive site, transportation will be provided for you once you arrive in Zambia. YU will arrange for flights from your point of departure to Lusaka, Zambia for you and the other participants. The airfare typically ranges from $1,800 - $2,400 USD depending on availability of steeply discounted seats.
You will need to be at the Every Orphan's Hope office in Dallas, Texas by 1p.m. on Wednesday June (TBD), 2009 for orientation. You will then depart the following day for Zambia, June (TBD). Your date of departure from Zambia is August (TBD), which means you should arrive at home on August (TBD).
Other Info: Other expenses that are not covered by YU in the registration fee include your passport application ($85 USD), inoculations/vaccinations ($100-$200 USD estimated for recommended inoculations at county or provincial health department), souvenirs (estimate $50-100 USD), and food and lodging in London or Johannesburg if there is an overnight stay on the way to or from Zambia (estimate $100 USD/night). Note that we've had many flight itineraries require an overnight stay in London or Johannesburg. The ENCOUNTER Team will have about several conference calls starting in March to prepare for our ENCOUNTER experience
