Latest Update Posted 3-25-2020
Dear Friends of Youth Unlimited,
News is changing by the hour and we, at Youth Unlimited, are doing our best to stay up to date on all that is going on. As we have read various headlines this week we thought it important to share a few reminders and some things to consider as you continue to plan for your SERVE 2020 summer trip.
- We have extended our SERVE registration deadline to April 15, 2020.
- We realize there have been and may continue to be wild swings in the USD / CAD exchange rates. While we are asking groups to complete their registrations by April 15, we are encouraging groups to wait until the payment deadline: May 1, 2020, to make their final payment. It is our hope and prayer that the financial markets will be a little more stable at that time.
- We realize that the border between Canada and the United States is currently closed and this is a difficult time for travel. The most recent reports have indicated that this is a short-term, temporary measure to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Until we are told otherwise, we are operating under the assumption that the borders will reopen and travel will resume in plenty of time for our SERVE trips to continue as planned.
Update #2 Posted 3-18-2020
Hello Youth Workers –
Update #1 Posted 3-11-2020
Dear Friends of Youth Unlimited,
With conversations and concerns around the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) growing over the past few weeks, we wanted to give an update on our plans to keep you, your group, our host teams and all the communities involved safe.
At this time, we are not concerned about the risk of this virus at our SERVE sites this summer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “For the majority of people, the risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low. There is not widespread circulation in most communities in the United States.” According to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), “At this time, PHAC has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for the general population in Canada.”
The spread of COVID-19 still seems to be mostly contained to those who have traveled overseas and healthcare professionals treating those with COVID-19.
That being said, we will be monitoring the situation closely and will reevaluate if the CDC or PHAC elevates the risk level or if other information comes to light. If there comes a time when travel restrictions are put in place within North America we will reevaluate our refund policy to ensure that all parties involved are treated fairly.
We care deeply about all of our participants as well as the communities to which they are traveling. We are taking into consideration all the factors involved in this worldwide conversation as we continue to try to plan the best summer mission trips that we can.
While on SERVE, you can expect all the necessary precautions to be taken. Our host locations are in churches, a Christian camp and a Christian school which deal with large numbers of people on a weekly basis and are also monitoring this situation closely.
In the meantime, we encourage you to continue as you normally would, filling out the step two online paperwork before the regular rate deadline on April 1st.
We are committed to a policy of open communication and we will continue to circulate updates as we get closer to our first site in June. This landing page will be the central location of these updates as we move forward. We are excited to SERVE together and lean into the Forever One story of Christ this summer.
