Camp Chilaven High School Service Trip Camp Chilaven high school service experienceGENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SERVE MISSION TRIPS

Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

SITE DESCRIPTION:

Children’s Haven is a unique ministry nestled in the Blackstone Valley area of Massachusetts. “The Haven” works with children and teens from Worcester, MA, the second largest city in New England. The majority of our city families are unchurched, low-income and broken. The parents desire their children to have a better life, but do not really know how to provide that. The Haven also works with children and teens from smaller towns in southern MA. These children, while not from the city, also come ladden with burdens and baggage. Some of the families are Christian families who desire their children to be a part of the Haven and benefit from the mentoring we offer. Other families are not. These families also face the daily struggles of unemployment, relationship struggles, and drugs that we see in our city families. Camp weaves these lives together into a tapestry of variety and beauty. Teens from our program will be working with you and serving you, as well. The majority of these high school students are unchurched.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

Almost all who have come to serve as camp staff at Camp Chilaven have left as a changed person. The children and teens we work with, although they come from a variety of backgrounds, always touch the hearts of those called to care for them. Camp Chilaven is a simple, but special place.

TRANSPORTATION:

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

NEAREST AIRPORT:

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Providence, RI. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
