Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

Grand Rapids has been called, “a cool city with warm hospitality.” Here in West Michigan we’re on the on the cutting edge of art, cuisine and culture, but we also have a distinctive small town feel as people are friendly and the streets are generally safe and clean. You will have the opportunity to visit the beach at Grand Haven during your trip.

While Grand Rapids is a wonderful place to live and visit, it is not wonderful for everyone who lives here. Nearly 16% of the population still lives below the poverty line. During your stay in Grand Rapids you will have a chance to learn from and work alongside people in our community. LaGrave Christian Reformed Church will be the host during your SERVE week. We expect that God is going to move in mighty ways this week, both in the hearts of individuals and in meeting the needs of the community. Come be a part of the change!

LaGrave Christian Reformed Church will be the host. The church is air-conditioned and we have a great youth building for our evening sessions and plenty of room to hang out after the sessions.

You will be working at a wide variety of sites. You will be at a different site each day giving you a great experience in our city of contrasts. This a a region where avenues of great abundance and wealth intersect with streets filled hurting people who have a story to share and life lessons to teach. You will serve in a variety of situations with people who are homeless, who need a hand restoring their house, who need groceries from the local food bank, or someone to play with their children at a day care center. We’ll also share in some creative ways to show Christ’s love in the community at large.

Beach at Grand Haven. The Grand Haven Convention and Visitors Bureau websites states, “The beaches located in the Grand Haven Area are considered to be some of the best vacation spots during the summer months. With the hot sun glimmering off of beautiful Lake Michigan, the sandy shores are absolutely irresistible. There is an incredible amount of fun activities to participate in that will perfect a day spent on the beach…Grand Haven will leave you anything but disappointed.”

“SERVE was the best experience I’ve had in my life. I am so happy that I accepted Jesus as my Savior this week.”
— Tara, Student

“I am so amazed! I was nervous about coming this week but now I can’t even begin to describe it. Just incredible. The evening worship, the small group, the jam sessions and every work site helped our group bond.”
— Katheline, Student

“It was awesome. Beyond words. I want to go home and do something!”
— Jordon, Student

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Grand Rapids, MI (GRR). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
