GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SERVE MISSION TRIPS
Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.
Lynden is a small town (around 13,000 population) nestled between Mountains, Pacific Ocean and large cities. We’ve got Mt. Baker 30 minutes east of us, the Pacific Ocean 30 minutes west of us, Seattle 2 hours south of us and Vancouver B.C. 1 hour north of us. Pretty much the best place on earth. The City of Lynden is a farming community with fields of raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, potatoes, dairy cows and beef cows. Bellingham, WA is a major city 14 miles away with issues characteristic of a city of it’s size. Home of Western Washington University and several community colleges, Bellingham is a diverse mix of well-educated and undereducated individuals. Bellingham is very diverse economically, with many wealthy neighborhoods but on the flip side has a large population of homeless and migrant families.
Our hope is that by hosting SERVE, participants will help our church create new and lasting relationships with agencies that serve our community and families and individuals that will expand our heart for the world. We hope that SERVE will also give our students the opportunity to flex their spiritual gifts muscles through hosting SERVE in our community. Finally, we hope to inspire participants to see the world through the eyes of Jesus so that they too will be inspired to serve were they live.
Guys will sleep in our classrooms in our education building in the basement. Gals will sleep in our new addition youth group room that has A/C.
Worksites may include light construction projects, yard work, relational ministry at local retirement communities and projects that assists non-profit organizations that serve the poor and homeless.

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
For your decision making purposes, the closest airports are Bellingham International Airport, Vancouver International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
