GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SERVE MISSION TRIPS

Youth Unlimited provides week-long summer mission trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth summer mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

SITE DESCRIPTION:

Platte is a rural community of 1,400 people. You will enjoy our hometown hospitality and our positive attitude. The town motto is, “Possible in Platte”.

Although we live in a small town our church gives support to nearly a dozen missionaries that are making an impact for the Gospel both locally and globally. This reflects our heart to be a people and a congregation involved in the Great Commission.

Take a break from suburbia (if that’s where you live) and join us for week-long summer mission trip as we seek to impact our own community with the love and grace of Jesus Christ. If you have ever wondered about life in a small town, this is the place for you.

CAPACITY:

60

FACILITIES:

Dakota Christian School is the location for our summer mission trip. This is a great place to call home for the week. The gym and cafeteria make it easy to enjoy the large group settings and you’ll find a spot in the classrooms we sleep in to call your own personal space.

WORKSITES:

Youth on the summer mission trip may be involved with painting, yard work or light construction. Teens on the trip may also work with the Native American children on the reservation doing Bible School, Sunday School or day camps.

WORSHIP:

Speaker: TBA
Worship Leader: TBA

DAY AWAY:

We’ll go on “down to the river,” where you’ll have opportunities for boating, swimming, skiing and tubing.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

“We had an awesome time in Platte, largely due to the fact that Kim and Kenny Lieuwen are wonderful hosts and very organized. They had a team of adults and youths who made us feel at home the minute we walked in the door. New friendships were developed and still remain. A few of our youth have even revisited Platte. I am also able to keep in touch with a couple of the kids from my small summer mission trip group.

God was definitely with us. There were no setbacks, everyone got along great, the whole community was welcoming, the worksites for the summer mission trip were varied and therefore made the week very interesting and challenged us.

Everything ran so smoothly and we always knew what was expected of us. The summer mission trip work site coordinators were able to instruct us in such a way that noone felt inadequate for the job. Lake Andes Day camp was probably the site loved by most. We were challenged and really had an opportunity to grow as we shared the love of Christ with the native children. It is my belief that these kids touched the hearts of everyone of our participants.”

TRANSPORTATION:

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of participants during the duration of the summer mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small summer mission groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small summer mission group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

NEAREST AIRPORT:

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Sioux Falls, SD. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
