Youth Unlimited provides week-long youth summer mission trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age youths. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth summer mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

Part of the larger Blackstone River Valley, which is known as the “Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution,” Whitinsville, Massachusetts, was once the home of the Whitin Machine Works – an internationally renowned maker of textile machinery. As such, the town (along with the rest of the Blackstone River Valley) was recently designated part of a National Historic Park! However, you would not know this by walking along the rivers, mills and housing that characterize this historic diamond in the rough. Neglected due to economic decline after the Whitin Machine Works closed, parts of town including key waterways, potential parks and historic buildings are greatly in need of some TLC. Students will break out the work gloves and be asked to lend some sweat equity to help restore hope, pride and beauty to one of our country’s newest National Parks; while also growing closer to the One who restores our lives.

Youths participating in the summer mission trip will be living, sleeping, fellowshipping and worshiping in our church building – one wing which has A/C, one wing which does not. (Sorry girls, the wing you’re sleeping in is the A/C-less wing – however, we will do our best to provide fans in each of your rooms!) Participants will walk to a nearby school to shower daily.

Worksites for the mission trip youths will be primarily physical in nature, concentrating on community restoration (painting, gardening, building fences, etc). However, each small group will also be asked to lay down the work gloves for a morning or afternoon and participate at a relational site as well.

Speaker: Pastor Mary Hulst, College Chaplain at Calvin College
Worship Leader: TBA

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of youth participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small youth groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.

For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is Logan Airport – Boston, MA, or TF Green Airport – Providence, RI. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
