SERVE Projects
You will be serving both individuals and local nonprofit organizations. You will be making and delivering a meal to the Busby Centre; they support those without homes, or “precariously housed” (a daily free meal helps families make ends meet and afford rent). You will be organizing donated items at the Habitat for Humanity’s Restore; fixing up furniture at a mission to give away to people moving into rentals; and restoring an old Girl Guides (Scouts) camp for a new nonprofit group. You will also be helping some senior citizens in the community who need help with outdoor work on their home or yard. You may be doing other jobs as worksites are added.
Site Description
Come to Beautiful Barrie! Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, Barrie is a growing city of 150,000. Some people have lived here for a generation or two, some are recent immigrants from all around the globe. We are an hour north of Toronto, and an hour south of “cottage country”, where the great outdoors beckon many tourists.
You will be sleeping in classrooms at Timothy Christian School (750 Essa Rd). The school is air conditioned, and has a new double gym for us to use, and plenty outdoor space to play soccer during free time. Showers will be off site at a local rec. centre, Peggy Hill Community Centre.
We will worship at 1st CRC Barrie on Sunday, the rest of the time we are at the school.
We will play morning mini golf in Barrie (they have bunnies, a sheep, and miniature goats!). We then drive out to the small tourist town of Tiny and Balm Beach to relax on the shore of Lake Huron, play cards, eat ice cream, and play games at a vintage arcade.
Get Directions
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional charges.
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ); Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) is also a possibility for groups travelling from the US. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received email confirmation from ThereforeGo Ministries that you have been placed at this site.
Our food coordinator owns a BBQ catering business; you will not go hungry!
