Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
Grand Rapids, MI (GRR) or Traverse City, MI (TVC). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
Cadillac is a “Northern Michigan” city with a population of 10,000 with another 10,000 in the greater community. Within the city is an entire lake that is over 2.5 miles long, along with several parks and beaches. Although there is much affluence in this vacation destination, we also have people who struggle with poverty. Our church congregation, about 250 people, has a long history of connections with services such as homeless shelters, food pantries, home improvement and creation care efforts.
Cadillac CRC is the host for this SERVE site. Participants will sleep in the church, worship in our main church worship area and eat in our newly updated kitchen and fellowship room. Our church campus is large and includes a community garden, a legit Frisbee golf course, a fire pit and a wooded area for games. We have recently installed air conditioning. Showers will be available at the local YMCA or an area school.
We are planning a tubing (or canoeing) event down the Platte River which is a pristine easy float river that empties into beautiful Lake Michigan, where we will enjoy some beach and picnic time.
