Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each youth missionary group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) (typically small group leaders) to transport an equal number of youth participants during the duration of the mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small youth missionary groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
For your decision making purposes, the closest airport is London, ON International Airport. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
Located along Canada’s busiest highway about halfway between Toronto and Detroit, London, Ontario has long been described as a big city with a small town feel. Once home to many of Canada’s insurance companies, financial sector, and a centre of diverse manufacturing, London has in more recent years, fallen on hard economic times. The departures in the last few years of companies like Electro-Motive Canada, Ford Motor Company, Sterling Trucks, McCormick-Beta Brands, and recently Kelloggs, have resulted in a community with one of Ontario’s highest jobless rates and growing numbers of working poor and people struggling to make ends meet. Talbot Street Church’s partnership with Sanctuary London has been an inspiring and integral part of London SERVE for several years.
Participants will stay at Talbot Street Church, located in the heart of downtown. This facility has bright carpeted rooms for sleeping, and is air conditioned. Showers are located off site at the local YMCA.
We will spend the morning of our day away at a nearby conservation area which has lots of trails and a beautiful waterfall. The afternoon with be at the beach on the shore of Lake Huron.
