Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
Sioux Falls, SD (FSD). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
As the largest city in South Dakota, Sioux Falls offers a welcoming atmosphere and big city entertainment with a small-town feel. Some prominent features of the city of Sioux Falls are its beautiful parks and bike trails. Sioux Falls maintains more than 70 parks and greenways spread throughout the city as well as 16 miles of paved path for biking, walking, jogging, and running. Sioux Falls has also spent a lot of energy revitalizing its downtown area which is home to many great shops and restaurants as well as a beautiful sculpture walk and riverfront areas.
Participants will be staying at First Christian Reformed Church and sleeping in air conditioned classrooms. There is a large gym onsite as well as showers both at First CRC and a nearby school, Sioux Falls Christian High School.
*Sioux Falls SERVE is a gluten safe environment. Alongside our traditional menu if you have celiac disease we will accommodate your needs of a gluten free diet and our kitchen staff works hard to avoid cross contamination.
For our day away we will be spending the majority of the day at beautiful Lake Okoboji. We will be starting at the lake with devotions and ending with worship and small groups in God’s beautiful creation before heading home for the night. Lake Okoboji is known for it’s large glacier-carved lakes, that are perfect for boating, tubing, skiing, kayaking and more! Participants will be staying at Gull Point State Park where we will have devotions before heading out to the boats. Participants will also have their choice of yard games, cards or simply relaxing and resting at the lodge.
July is one of the hottest and most humid months for Sioux Falls! Please come prepared to use a lot of sunscreen, drink lots and lots of water and to be hot. (Please bring your own water bottle) The church has air-conditioning throughout the building that we will be utilizing and enjoying, however, participants should expect to get their sweat on during the worksites!
Please come to this site with one semi-formal outfit for just one of our evening activities.
New This Year!!! Sioux falls will be a cell phone free site! All students’ phones will be collected during the registration process and returned before you leave Saturday morning. We hope this will further help the students to focus on deepening their relationship with Christ and with one another during the SERVE week.
While we won’t be collecting leaders’ phones, we do ask that leaders help us embrace a cell phone free site by limiting their own use of cell phones during the week.
