Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call Youth Unlimited to discuss options and additional charges.
Gerald Ford International Airport (GRR) – Grand Rapids, MI – a 25-minute drive. Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received written confirmation from Youth Unlimited that you have been placed at this site.
Lee Street Christian Reformed Church sits in the middle of the diverse community called Godfrey/Lee in Wyoming, MI. Note: This is NOT the state of Wyoming. We have no mountains except the ones moved by God because of our faith in him. Lee Street Church began 92 years ago as an English speaking church. Today our community is 50% Hispanic. Minority enrollment is 90% of the Godfrey/Lee student body. Nearly 40% of students fall below the poverty line. We are called to serve where God places us and we find it an honor and privilege to serve our ethnically diverse community. In so doing, we learn more about God, others and ourselves. What makes our site unique is a purposeful Spanish immersion experience. One day (maybe only half a day,) each small group will be immersed in the Spanish community: The language, shopping, cooking and eating.
Participants will sleep, eat and meet at Lee Street CRC. Our sleeping facilities are air-conditioned but our showers will be off-site at local high schools or host family homes.
We plan to take our day away at an inland lake where we will swim, tube, ski, play games and have a bonfire and worship time together.
In July, we set up a tent in our parking lot where we worship on Sunday mornings. So our first Sunday we will experience outdoor worship in a “tabernacle.” The rest of the week, we will plan activities under the tent as well.
